STNDRD is a site-based contemporary art project based in the Saint Louis Metro area that was founded in 2016. Our program presents exhibitions, interventions, and projects that are conceptually inspired and physically determined by alternative sites, and the cultural, historical, and architectural significance of the communities and landscapes that surround them. The mission of STNDRD is realized first through its flagship program in Granite City, Illinois, where exhibitions examine the power and potential of flags – richly evidenced by history and within contemporary art as cultural objects that abstract, encapsulate, and canonize. STNDRD brings contemporary art to under-served communities, and particularly to the rust belt.
Alongside its permanent location, off-site exhibitions are ongoing and have previously included collaborations with Dalton Warehouse in South Central Los Angeles, Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, ACRE Artist Residency Program in Stueben, Wisconsin, DEMO Project in Springfield, Illinois, and the Terrain Biennial Enos Park in Springfield, Illinois.
